For
this entertainment area, we had to
incorporate the owner's equipment specifications with the designer's
requirement for downlighting and bookshelf space. Our goal was to keep
the entire unit
behind the 15 inch deep fireplace hearth, and within the 13-1/2 inch
deep soffit.
|
The video and
stereo equipment below the television can be remote controlled even
with the doors closed by virtue of an infrared remote control repeater.
The interiors of the base cabinets behind the
doors are all mica laminated, not only for durability but to allow the
separate equipment
shelving stack below the TV (see photo above) to be easily rotated or
moved to facilitate wire management.
Some of the other features of this cabinetry are:
- Extended crown soffit
- Halogen downlighting
- Touch latches on the doors
- Adjustable shelving (uppers and base)
- Matching mica laminate interiors (behind doors)
- Raised panel doors and end panels
- 125° European full overlay hinges
- Furniture base
You can see in this "before" picture (below), when compared with the top photo on this page, the extent of the remodel for
this entertainment center. Note the removal of the extended hearth and
mantel, as well as a completely new fireplace surround.
We worked closely with the General Contractor to make sure the new entertainment center matched the soffit, yet was
still able to accommodate the customer's television specifications.
